This is the home of St Dominic’s College Sports. Here you will find all you need to know about the sports our college offers, including the fees, uniforms, trial dates and game days for such. It also offers insight into the avenues of contact or further information for each sport and the overall vision and ethos of the sports department.
Engage, Excel, Enjoy is the mission statement of the St Dominic’s Catholic College Sports Department. With this there is an emphasis on participation, growth and positivity, and being able to provide enriching experiences for all students through sport during their time at the college.
We are continually searching for new community members to join us in coaching, managing or volunteering to enable students to have these sporting experiences. If you, or anyone you know, are able to help out in any way, please do not hesitate to make contact. We appreciate every small bit of knowledge, time or care passed on to our students and would gratefully welcome you into our sporting community.
Our Sports Pyramid is a visual representation of the sports we offer as a college and the type of training and opportunities the department can facilitate.
Sports Fees
Students are expected to pay fees in full prior to the commencement of their sport. Alternatively, payment plans can be made with our accounts department.
Fees can be paid online using the sporting reference code (see individual sport) and students name to St Dominic’s College Board of Trustees - 02 0152 0469414 000.
Fees are calculated to cover the cost of any coaching, entry fees, facility hire, equipment, travel or other costs for each given sport while being kept as low as possible to enable accessibility to participation for all.
Trials
Students are asked to sign up and trial for all sports through the daily notices at the college. The dates, times, fees and locations for these are also available for students on the sports noticeboard and for parents, will also be posted here.
If you have any questions regarding trials, please ask your daughter to come and visit the sports department in the gym office or please email Jodi Smith - Sports Coordinator at jsmith@stdoms.ac.nz or sports@stdoms.ac.nz .
Sports Uniforms
Each sport requires a uniform for students to participate in. The majority of year 7 & 8 sports and one-day events will wear the college PE uniform. Netball players however should purchase their own dress. Please refer to the netball information to ensure that the correct dress is purchased during the 2020-2022 changeover. Football and Hockey generally require students to purchase their own uniform. Basketball, Volleyball and one-day event sports will be given a college singlet on loan. The college hoodie and anorak are available for all students to purchase as outerwear when representing our college in sport. For any sporting uniform needs please head to our uniform supplier, Elizabeth Michael.
St Dominic’s Catholic College supports the Good Sports initiative, aiming to create positive sporting experiences for our students by supporting and educating the key adult influencers in college sports. For more information, use the following link https://aktive.org.nz/good-sports/
Training & Games
Training days and times are set by the coach/manager of each individual team and communicated to our students via the daily messages, notices to take home or via email and on our website. These could be during school hours (1.20-2.00pm) or after school (3.30-4.30pm or 3.30-5.00pm). Please get your daughter to check when her training sessions are and ensure that attendance is made.
Cancellations or changes in times will be communicated primarily through our students and via our website. The sports coordinators will also communicate with parents via email so it is a good idea to make sure your email address on our school system is current.
Coaching & Managing
As a college we rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of volunteers in order for our sports to run. If you or anyone you know is able to help out in any way, please do not hesitate to get in contact. Moving forward, all sporting teams will require an adult volunteer to be present at all times to allow them to compete.
Sports Registration
To register for a sport offered at St Dominic's College, email the sports coordinator, jsmith@stdoms.ac.nz
Once registrations are complete, lists of all participants in each sport are placed on the sports notice boards. It is the responsibility of all students who have signed up to check these lists. Students are not permitted to cross their names off the lists - they must go and see the Sports Co-ordinator with the reasons for wanting to take their name off a list. Anyone failing to go through the correct procedure to “de-register” may be charged full fees or cancellation fees for the sport they withdraw from.
