Year 10 Hillary Steps
Scholarship Programme
This is a programme aimed at Year 10 students. The number of students we are able to take is dependent on the number of scholarships we receive from the Hillary Outdoors Scholarship programme and funding from local businesses.
The course takes place during the last week of Term 3. It is a 6-day programme with the theme “Leadership, team building and community service”. Students will take part in a range of activities based around the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests of the Central North Island Plateau including the Tongariro National Park. Activities may include; journeys and expeditions, canoeing, high and low rope course, mountaineering, orienteering, leadership and communication challenges and overnight camping etc.
OPC statement: This is an opportunity to “recognise the ‘good kids’ who are the ones that wear the correct uniform, they are nice to their friends, generally polite to their teachers, and mostly do their homework. It is for those students who usually fly under the radar and quietly go about their business.” Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre Hillary Steps Scholarship Programme
