The Award focuses on encouraging young people to make independent decisions and to negotiate priorities through regular participation in a range of activities for the required length of time at each level.

This is a programme aimed at Year 10 students. The number of students we are able to take is dependent on the number of scholarships we receive from the Hillary Outdoors Scholarship programme and funding from local businesses.

The course takes place during the last week of Term 3. It is a 6-day programme with the theme “Leadership, team building and community service”. Students will take part in a range of activities based around the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests of the Central North Island Plateau including the Tongariro National Park.  Activities may include; journeys and expeditions, canoeing, high and low rope course, mountaineering, orienteering, leadership and communication challenges and overnight camping etc.
