In 2021 the board of the Catholic Diocese of Auckland approved two building projects for our college. The first stage, our stunning new Te Whare Mātauranga opened this year (see below), and the second stage, beginning at the end of 2024, will introduce a dedicated Arts block, which will be home to Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Art.
Additionally, the expansion will include a Deans' hub and additional classroom spaces, further enhancing the College's ability to offer diverse educational opportunities.
Over the next two years, the footprint of St Dominic's Catholic College will change dramatically. Following the completion of the building development, most of the existing one-storey buildings will be demolished, creating more open green spaces for students to enjoy. This transformation reflects the College's vision of a modern, inviting campus that merges modern design, redefining the standard for educational facilities.
Te Whare Mātauranga
At the beginning of 2024, St Dominic's Catholic College proudly unveiled the first phase of its exciting new building development - Te Whare Mātauranga. This modern, three-level structure houses 19 modern learning spaces, marking a significant milestone in the College's commitment to providing a holistic and enriched educational environment.
The name ‘Te Whare Mātauranga’, meaning ‘The House of Knowledge’, reflects the College's vision of creating a space that fosters learning, creativity, and cultural connection. The building is dedicated to teaching core subjects such as Religious Education (RE), Science, and Social Science, with classrooms designed to support both traditional lessons and interactive, collaborative workshops. Additionally, it features a Wellbeing Centre with Guidance and Learning Support spaces to cater to the needs of both students and staff.
Te Whare Mātauranga is more than just a building; it's a place where students can come together to explore, discover, and grow. This development represents our commitment to providing the best possible facilities for our students and staff. With its modern design and focus on collaboration, Te Whare Mātauranga has quickly become a hub of activity at the College. Students and staff alike have embraced the new space, enjoying an environment that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation, setting a new standard for educational facilities.
